Belgosafe, the national professional association of manufacturers, distributors and service providers of value storage systems such as safes and strongboxes, has issued a new information card. This card provides a concise explanation of the various burglary-resistant and fire-resistant standards for safes and strongboxes.
An important update concerns the indicative insurance coverage (insurers’ coverage advice). It is now split into cash and valuables. For cash, the coverage is usually lower, while for valuables it is higher. These indications are now aligned for Belgium.
It is important to note that cash and valuables cannot be added together. For example: a Grade III safe has an indicative value of €45,000 in cash or €90,000 in valuables. The difference arises because cash can immediately enter circulation after theft, while valuables generally need to be sold first.
As before, these amounts are indicative. The final insurance advice may be adjusted depending on factors such as building location, the nature of the items stored and the presence of additional security systems. For an accurate assessment, you should consult your insurance company.
