What is a Grade 1 safe?

EN 1143-1 Grade 1 is a European certification for the burglary resistance of safes for applications with a low risk profile. A certified Grade 1 safe provides resistance against an intruder with hand tools, crowbars and basic power tools with limited experience. Grade 1 is available as a freestanding safe, wall safe, floor safe, gun safe and key safe — and is particularly suitable for those who want to combine high fire protection with reliable burglary resistance.

Burglary resistance is expressed in Resistance Units (RU): Grade 1 requires 50 RU for partial access and 80 RU for full access.

The indicative insurable value is €10,000 in cash or €20,000 in valuables — based on storage in an unattended and unsecured building. Cash and valuables may not be combined.
