Frequently asked questions

Atelier Boonen takes care of the complete delivery, installation and anchoring of safes and fire-resistant cabinets entirely in-house – we do not rely on external transporters or installers. With our specialized equipment, we deliver discreetly and safely, even to upper floors or hard-to-reach locations. Safes are always wrapped in opaque film and transported in neutral vehicles to avoid unwanted attention.

For safes up to 1000 kg, anchoring is mandatory under the European standard EN 1143-1. We carry out this anchoring carefully using chemical anchors or tailor-made solutions, depending on the type of floor or wall. Where needed, we use stair climbers and protective materials to safeguard floors, walls and staircases.

Every installation is performed safely, efficiently and with respect for the building. This guarantees you a professionally executed placement that provides the strongest and most durable solution.

No.
A safe with a burglary-resistant certification (for example EN 1143-1 or EN 14450) is not automatically fire-resistant. These standards only test burglary resistance, not fire protection.

A safe is only truly fire-resistant when it has been tested according to specific fire resistance standards, such as EN 1047-1EN 15659NT Fire 017 or UL 72.

Some safes combine both and therefore have a double certification for burglary and fire protection.
With us, these products are listed in the category fire safes, available from security level S2 up to class VI.

More information:

Also note that standards such as DIN 4102 relate to building materials and do not guarantee the protection of documents stored inside a safe.

EN 14450 is a European standard for security cabinets and safes providing a basic level of burglary resistance. The standard distinguishes two levels: security level S1 and security level S2. Unlike EN 1143-1, resistance is not expressed in Resistance Units but the product is classified based on standardised attacks with limited mechanical hand tools.

Security level S1 provides basic protection against opportunistic theft and simple burglary attempts. Security level S2 provides a reinforced basic level compared to S1, but remains clearly below the level of EN 1143-1 Grade 0.

The indicative insurable value is €2,500 in cash or €5,000 in valuables for S1, and €5,000 in cash or €9,000 in valuables for S2 — based on storage in an unattended and unsecured building. Cash and valuables may not be combined.

More about S1 and S2 security cabinets and safes according to EN 14450

There is no single best home safe in absolute terms — but there is a best answer for your specific situation. For everyday use — jewellery, cash or a firearm — a burglary-resistant safe of a lower security class will suffice in most cases, provided it is correctly anchored in a discreet location. If you also want protection against fire, a doubly certified fire-resistant safe is the logical choice. The decision depends on what you want to protect, its value, and where you intend to place the safe. We are happy to help you find the right solution — free of charge and without obligation.
