Atelier Boonen takes care of the delivery, installation and anchoring of safes entirely in-house. We never use external transporters or installers. Using specialised transport equipment, we deliver discreetly and safely, including to upper floors or hard-to-reach locations. Safes are always wrapped in opaque film and transported in unmarked vehicles to avoid curious eyes.

For safes up to 1000 kg, anchoring is mandatory under the European standard EN 1143-1. We carry out this anchoring carefully, using chemical anchors or adapted solutions depending on the substrate. Where necessary, we use stair climbers and protective materials to safeguard floors, walls and staircases.

The installation is always carried out safely, efficiently and with respect for the building. This guarantees you a professionally executed installation offering the strongest and most durable solution. In 95% of cases, delivery, installation and anchoring are included in the price — at no extra charge.

A safe with a code lock is also known as a digital safe or combination safe. Locking is done by an electronic code lock or a mechanical combination lock. Key-operated safes are also available, as are combinations of both. The right choice depends on your daily use and the security grade of your safe.

From grade 4 onwards, two safe locks are mandatory — a combination of key lock and code lock, or two code locks. For lighter safes, a second lock can be added as an option.

  • Electronic locks: user-friendly, the code is easy to set and change, often with multiple codes, time functions, audit trail and alarm connection.
  • Mechanical locks: the classic mechanical dial lock — extremely reliable and durable, less prone to faults, but slower to operate and more complex when changing the code.
  • Key locks: suitable as an additional lock, but rarely recommended as the only lock.

The best safe for your home doesn't exist — the best safe for your situation does. The right choice depends on what you want to protect, where you want to place the safe and how you use it day to day. For everyday items such as jewellery, documents or some cash, a burglar-resistant home safe of a lower security grade is often sufficient; if you also want protection against fire, choose a fire-resistant safe. If you prefer to keep the safe hidden, a wall safe or floor safe is an interesting option. Also pay attention to the insurable value per grade and to professional anchoring, and check whether your insurer has specific requirements. Usually not, even though the numbers may suggest otherwise. An example: a Salvus Rome 3 weighs 281 kg on a footprint of 50 × 50 cm. That equals more than 1,100 kg/m², while a residential floor is designed for 200 kg/m². Does that mean it won't work? No — because those 200 kg/m² apply to a load evenly distributed across the entire floor, not to a single point.

By comparison: a person weighing 80 kg standing on one leg presses on the floor through a shoe sole of barely 0.02 m². That amounts to 4,000 kg/m² — nearly four times more than the safe. Yet nobody falls through the floor. A floor distributes a point load throughout the structure.

The total weight in the room also matters. A room of 10 m² can carry 2,000 kg according to the standard — in practice, that never happens. A single safe of 281 kg stays well within that limit.

A safe is preferably placed against a load-bearing wall. The safe is also anchored into the wall, so that part of the load — or all of it, if the safe is suspended — is carried by the wall.

Naturally, every situation is assessed individually. In case of doubt, we call on a structural engineer. In some situations, supporting structures or reinforcements need to be provided.
