Chubbsafes is a globally recognized brand in physical security, with a history dating back to 1835, when Chubb in England introduced its first burglar-resistant safe. Since becoming part of the international Gunnebo Group, Chubbsafes has grown into the reference brand for fire- and burglary-resistant safes. Today, it offers a wide range of certified safes, security cabinets and vaults for private, commercial and institutional use.

From Chubb in England to a global brand

Chubb was founded in 1818 and in 1835 patented its first burglar-resistant safe in England. This laid the foundation for a brand that would grow into one of the best-known names in physical security. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Chubb expanded internationally and became a reference in fire- and burglary-resistant solutions.

At the same time, in the Netherlands, Lips Brandkasten (founded in 1871) became synonymous with robust, fire-resistant safes. With the later integration of Lips and Chubb, two traditions of craftsmanship were combined into one brand: Chubbsafes.

Globally recognized and certified

Since its inception, Chubbsafes has stood for innovation and international certification. From the very first fire-resistant safes to the development of modern barrier materials like Dualite®, the brand has continuously responded to new security challenges.

Today’s range covers everything from compact residential safes to vault doors and bank vaults, always meeting the highest standards. Many models carry ECB.S or A2P certification and are available in grades from Grade I to Grade VI, with vault solutions up to Grade XII.

Mergers, acquisitions and the 2000 split

In the second half of the 20th century, Chubb underwent strong international expansion and acquired several security companies. After ownership changes through Racal (1984) and Williams Holdings (1997), a major split occurred in 2000:

The safe and vault division (Chubbsafes) was sold to the Swedish Gunnebo Group, where the brand remains today.
