When referring to a fire-resistant safe, it is often understood in practice as a safe that provides not only protection against fire, but also against burglary. In many applications, this combination is logical, as documents and valuable items may be exposed to both fire and burglary risks.
The fire protection of a fire-resistant safe is expressed in minutes of fire resistance, such as 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes. This duration indicates how long the temperature inside the fire-resistant safe remains below a defined limit during a standardized fire test. The longer this period, the longer the contents remain protected in the event of a fire.
In addition to fire resistance, a large number of fire-resistant safes also feature a burglary-resistance certification, most commonly in accordance with the European standard EN 1143-1. This standard classifies safes into different resistance classes, depending on the level of protection against burglary attempts. Fire-resistant safes with a higher burglary class therefore provide broader security.

An example of such a combined solution is the Salvus Bologna, a fire-resistant safe providing 60 minutes of fire protection for paper documents in accordance with LFS 60P, while also being certified for burglary resistance according to EN 1143-1 class I (ECB·S).
