Does a safety cabinet need an annual inspection?

For fire-resistant safety cabinets in the workplace: yes, at least once a year. The Belgian Code on well-being at work requires fire protection equipment, which includes equipment that limits the consequences of a fire, to be inspected at least once a year, unless the manufacturer or installer sets stricter requirements (art. III.3-22). The employer also keeps it in good condition through maintenance according to the manufacturer's instructions. The dates of inspections and maintenance and the findings are kept on record.

An inspection is not automatically a check by an accredited inspection body. The cabinet's manual states who may carry out the inspection. Manufacturers may also set conditions for the warranty: for the Q-LINE, for example, Asecos requires an annual inspection by specialist staff authorised by the manufacturer; without it, the manufacturer's warranty expires. Asecos also requires an annual inspection for its battery cabinets. We order this inspection from Asecos for you; see Do you offer an annual inspection of safety cabinets?

This rule concerns fire-resistant cabinets in the workplace. For cabinets for acids and alkalis without a fire-resistant function, or for use at home, follow the manufacturer's instructions. See our safety cabinets for flammable products.
