Wall safes and floor safes
Built-in safes, such as wall safes and floor safes, offer an ideal solution for storing your valuables discreetly and securely. Wall safes are designed to be bricked into a wall, while floor safes are set into the floor or the ground. Once installed, they are barely visible, keeping them away from unwanted attention and protecting the safe itself from being carried off.
When installing a wall safe, it is important to allow for at least 10 cm of concrete around every side of the safe. On certain wall safe models, additional rear armour plating can be added for reinforced protection. The classic wall safe also remains available with a key lock combined with a mechanical three-button code lock — notably in the Fichet-Bauche Complice range and from Technomax.
Wall safes and floor safes are generally available up to resistance Grade 1 under EN 1143-1: their construction, with a door and a narrow built-in body, rarely allows higher certification. That is enough for most household valuables, because once the safe is set in the masonry, the surrounding concrete becomes part of the protection: it considerably increases the effective resistance and makes tearing the safe out next to impossible.
If you need a higher grade, you don't have to give up on building in: a regular free-standing safe can also be fully bricked in. Compact Grade 2 or 3 safes are popular for this approach, such as the ATB Bravo, the Salvus Milano or the DRS Prisma III — the certified resistance of the safe and the protection of the concrete then add up. A built-in safe also tends to be more economical than a free-standing safe offering comparable protection.
As for fire protection: built-in safes are never fire-tested or certified, because the final protection also depends on the built-in construction itself. If fire protection matters to you, brick in a certified fire-resistant safe instead — combining tested fire resistance with the advantages of concealed installation.
Proper installation is a job for professionals: once the safe is placed in the wall or floor, it must be set level, anchored and fully encased in concrete, without cavities that give tools a purchase.
